“Motherland is an ode to Dr. Lynn Watts’ nurturing and adventurous spirit. The gift shop and the pieces within are a representation of how society commodifies the Black experience. My intention with this installation is to pay homage to outspoken revolutionaries, such as the Black Panther Party. Dr. Watts’ essence inspired me to showcase harsh realities with a hopeful outlook through grace and resilience.”
